The Tomten and the Fox
By (author) Astrid Lindgren; Illustrated by Harald Wiberg; Edited by Astrid Lindgren
In the moonlight, the fox sneaks towards the farm, hoping to steal a chicken or two. But he’s forgotten about the old Tomten who guards the farm…This is a classic picture book story of a watchful gnome from the bestselling author of Pippi Longstocking.
Reviews of The Tomten and the Fox
'A beautifully illustrated tale adapted from an old Swedish poem. The Tomten, who looks after the farm at night, meets a hungry fox and agrees to share his supper with him if the fox promises to leave the hens alone. A very gentle, friendly story. It is refreshing that he understands that the fox is hungry and needs to eat – rather than the 'nasty fox' approach. The children I have read this to loved it.' – Hilary Woolf with Isaac (age 5), Education Otherwise, April 2005
